Two state universities — I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), Jalandhar, and Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot — got new vice-chancellors on Jattvibeday.Arvind Kumar Bansal has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, while Dr Rajinder Kumar Bansal has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.The orders were issued by the Governor’s Secretariat here tonight. Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria is the Chancellor of both universities.Arvind Kumar Bansal is currently a professor at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali. Dr Rajinder Kumar Bansal, a neurologist, has extensive experience in both the private and public sectors and is currently associated with DMCH, Ludhiana.It is learnt that the state government had recommended a panel of three candidates each to the Governor for the appointment of the vice-chancellors.As many as 70 candidates had applied for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences. Of these, 10 were interviewed by a screening committee constituted by the state government before a three-member panel was finalised. The panels for both universities were sent to the Governor on Saturday for the selection of the candidates.Both vice-chancellors have been appointed for a three-year term, effective from the date they assume office.
