Proving the saying — hard work pays off — right, poultry entrepreneur Jatinder Pal Singh has come a long way.From dealing in poultry raw material, building his own brand to winning the CM Award in 2022 at the biannual Pashu Palan Mela held by Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Jatinder Pal Singh’s growth journey is nothing short of extraordinary.A Ludhiana resident, Jatinder Pal Singh started his farm with 50,000 chickens in 2005. Today, his farm at Mohi village, Mullanpur, houses 1.15 lakh birds, producing nearly 80,000 eggs daily and being sold under the brand Henlay Farm Fresh Eggs.“We were dealing in poultry raw material and then I thought of building my own poultry farm. I took training from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University before starting the venture,” he said.Jatinder Pal’s business policies align with the recommendations of GADVASU. His farm is equipped with a cage system-based shed, semi-automatic feeders, and an in-house feed mill that ensures quality nutrition for the birds.Registered with the FSSAI, he manages marketing, ensuring the produce reaches different parts of the country, with the largest borrowers being Rajasthan and Jammu.Beyond production, Jatinder Pal makes it a point to hire local women, offering them stable work opportunities and contributing to rural empowerment.“I prefer hiring local people. The employees at my farm are from Mohi village as they understand the local situation,” he said. His farm’s annual turnover is Rs 12-13 crore, reflecting both the venture’s scale and sustainability.As for hygiene and health concerns, Jatinder Pal ensures proper vaccination and scientific management of his flock. His message to fellow farmers is clear, “Adopt modern practices, diversify, and take ownership of marketing. Farming is not just about survival, it can be turned into a thriving business if done with dedication following science and latest technological updates,” he said.
