Eminent neurologist Dr Rajinder Bansal today officially assumed charge as the Vice-Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot. Upon his arrival at the university campus, he was received by university officials, faculty members, representatives of local social organisations and medical and hospital staff.His appointment was notified by the Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of the university under Section 14(2) of the Baba Farid University Act, 1998, for a three-year tenure.A veteran in the medical field with over 25 years of clinical and academic experience, Dr Bansal brings extensive leadership expertise to the institution. He completed his MBBS in 1989 and MD in Internal Medicine in 1992 from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana, before earning his DM in Neurology from the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, in 2000.During his long medical career, Dr Bansal has served as a Professor in the Department of Neurology at DMC&H, Ludhiana. He has also held leadership positions as Senior Consultant, Medical Director and Head of Neurosciences at RG Hospitals, Ludhiana. He continues to maintain an active clinical practice at BRS Nagar, Ludhiana.Addressing the university administration and the media after taking charge, Dr Bansal expressed gratitude for the responsibility entrusted to him. He said he was committed to leading the university with complete honesty, transparency and dedication.Outlining his vision, Dr Bansal said his focus would be on raising the standards of medical education, advancing research initiatives, streamlining administrative functions and improving healthcare services across all affiliated medical colleges and hospitals.”I am committed to working towards building an academic environment of excellence and ensuring that patients visiting institutions under BFUHS receive high-quality medical care,” he said.
