The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday announced a nationwide call for a peaceful march in Delhi on September 5, alleging that the Union Government had failed to honour commitments made to young people on July 25, following which protests held across the country were withdrawn in good faith.The march is scheduled to begin at India Gate and proceed to the Delhi Police Headquarters. According to the CJP, families of NEET suicide victims and victims of alleged police brutality will lead the march, with students, youth organisations and young people from across the country expected to participate.Speaking to The Tribune, CJP national secretary Aafreen Nawaz said, “The promises made to the youth are yet to be fulfilled despite repeated reminders from our side. We have been ignored completely. Therefore, the CJP is organising this march to seek the implementation of the commitments made to the youth.”The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee. The party questioned whether the government intended to honour the commitments on the basis of which the youth movement had been called off.The party also referred to proceedings before the Supreme Court on August 18. It said the court repeatedly sought a list of FIRs registered across the country so it could consider quashing them collectively. The CJP claimed this would have made it easier for the government to fulfil one of its commitments more easily, but alleged that the Centre had not given a clear assurance in this regard. The party further alleged that a written assurance promised by the Union Government was still pending.The CJP said the continued delay had left young people with no option but to return to peaceful and democratic protest. It described the September 5 march as a response to what it called the government’s failure to act on promises made after the nationwide protests were withdrawn.The party said families who lost their children would be at the forefront of the proposed march, while victims of alleged police brutality would walk alongside them, turning the September 5 protest into a public demand for the government to honour its commitments.The CJP appealed to students, youth organisations and young people across the country to assemble at India Gate on September 5 and join the march. It reiterated that the protest would remain peaceful and democratic.
