With another letter threatening Kashmiri Pandits surfacing on social media, a body of the community working in the Valley has asked the J&K administration to provide “enhanced and adequate security cover” to all PM Package Kashmiri Pandit employees.The letter, attributed to a little-known group calling itself the “United Liberation Council”, has warned Kashmiri Pandits that “we are watching your every move”. It also contains details of some migrants, including their house numbers and addresses in the Jammu region. This is not the first time that such a letter has surfaced on social media.In a written communication to the UT Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, the All PM Package Employees Forum, Kashmir, said, “The letter reportedly contains threats directed towards migrant Kashmiri Pandit employees and mentions their personal details such as names, addresses and vehicle numbers of certain individuals.”Noting that the authenticity of the letter is yet to be verified by the police and security agencies, the forum said the repeated circulation of threat letters and posters, particularly those containing sensitive personal information, “is a matter of grave concern”.“The matter has reportedly been brought to the notice of the concerned authorities for verification and necessary action,” it said.Emphasising that the Valley has already witnessed the killings of Kashmiri Pandit employees in targeted attacks, the forum stated that the repeated threats every week had created a deep sense of fear and insecurity among employees and their families.The forum has requested the Chief Secretary to provide enhanced and adequate security cover to all PM Package Kashmiri Pandit employees posted in the Valley. It also asked the authorities to conduct an immediate and thorough verification of the fresh threat letter and identify those responsible for its circulation.It also sought a review of the security arrangements at the places of posting, residential accommodations and transit routes of PM Package employees, saying necessary preventive measures based on the latest security assessment and intelligence inputs should be taken.The forum has also asked to ensure that employees whose names, addresses or vehicle details have appeared in such threats should get immediate protection.Earlier after the circulation of such letters, the authorities in Kashmir had verbally advised Kashmiri Pandit and other migrant employees not to attend offices at least until August 20.For some time now, Kashmiri Pandits have also been seeking to reclaim their ancestral properties and land in the Valley. Several temples that had remained closed after the onset of terrorism have also been reopened.
