Modi laid into the red-faced dictator as he declared: “We need to move from an endless war to the end of the war.”
A visibly rattled Putin removed his earpiece – used for translation – during the remarks before awkwardly replying: “Thank you very much, Mr Prime Minister. We are moving in that direction.”

Modi also said: “Every day of war sets the humanity back, whereas every step taken towards peace fills the humanity with new hope and enthusiasm.”
He added: “A peaceful resolution to all issues at the earliest is the call of humanity, and this is India’s message.

Modi highlighted ending the nearly five-year war was “crucial for the well-being of humanity”.
The Indian PM made the brave comments at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) – a rival of western alliances like Nato and the G7 -summit in Kyrgyzstan.
