GRAND Theft Auto VI is shaping up to be the biggest gaming launch of the decade.
Yet as hype reaches fever pitch, many fans are left wondering if they will be able to play it without dropping hundreds on a brand-new gaming setup.

The previous console generation still boasts a massive audience, with over 117million PlayStation 4s (PS4s) sitting in living rooms worldwide.
With the newer PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles commanding steep price tags, many gamers haven’t felt the urgency – or had the budget – to make the expensive upgrade.

Is GTA 6 overdue? Every Grand Theft Auto game since 1997 in release order
The game was originally slated for a 2025 release window before being pushed back to May 2026, and eventually moved to its current November slot.
The extra development time was taken to give the massive game extra polish and ensure it all runs smoothly.
A mid-November launch lands the game squarely in the prime Christmas shopping season, making it the top target for holiday wish lists.
Will GTA 6 Be on PS4?
PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners hoping to revisit Vice City on their existing console are out of luck.
Rockstar Games has officially limited GTA 6 to current-generation (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) hardware, and the game won’t release on PS4 or Xbox One.
The decision comes down to raw processing power.
GTA 6 is set in a vast, hyper-realistic world, with sprawling neon cityscapes, dense crowds, high-speed pursuits, and realistic gun battles across the fictional state of Leonida.
To make all of that run smoothly without constantly freezing, blurring, or crashing, the game relies on the modern tech found only in the newer consoles, like high-speed SSDs and advanced processors.
Attempting to run a game of this scale on the tech inside PS4 and Xbox One consoles – both almost 15 years old at this point – would require massive compromises.
Instead of a smooth, movie-like experience, players would be left with choppy movement, blurry scenery, and constant lag every time the action heats up.
When will GTA 6 be released on PC?
Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI.
But an eventual PC release is widely regarded as inevitable.
Given the massive commercial success of their previous blockbuster games – not to mention GTA 6’s nailed-on world domination – it would make sense for Rockstar to develop a PC version down the line.
Even if they do, the studio historically prioritises console versions before developing dedicated PC builds.
While Rockstar has not confirmed an official PC launch date, past releases could offer us a clue to a rough timeline.
Grand Theft Auto V originally hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, but gamers were left waiting 19 months until its PC release in April 2015.
Rockstar stuck to a similar playbook with Red Dead Redemption 2, launching on PS4 and Xbox One in October 2018 before bringing the game to PC 13 months later in November 2019.
Based on these precedents, a PC port for GTA 6 is realistically expected between late 2027 and mid-2028.
Rockstar typically uses this additional development window to optimise the engine for various hardware configurations, uncap framerates, and add advanced graphical options.
