As many as 755 complaints were received through the Safe Punjab Helpline in Faridkot district, of which cases have been registered in 339, Punjab Cabinet Minister for Revenue and Rehabilitation Hardeep Singh Mundian said here today while reviewing the “Yudh Nashiyan Virudh” (War Against Drugs) campaign.Acting on the information received over the past year, the police have identified 11 drug hotspots in the district — six in Kotkapura and five in Jaitu — where exemplary action has been taken against drug smugglers, the minister said.Mundian directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to ensure that all identified hotspots are eliminated within the next three months. He also instructed police officers to conduct time-bound investigations into pending cases and take strict action against drug traders.Mundian reviewed the anti-drug campaign along with Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and MLAs Gurdit Singh Sekhon and Amolak Singh.He said the state government had adopted a three-pronged strategy to eliminate drugs — choking the supply line, spreading awareness and rehabilitating victims through treatment — and that the campaign had yielded meaningful results on all three fronts.The minister appealed to people to share information about drug smugglers through the “Nasha Mukt Punjab” app and the Safe Punjab Helpline (97791-00200), assuring them that the identity of those sharing information would remain confidential.Mundian said the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was the first in the state not to extend political patronage to drug smugglers, which, he said, had helped break the supply chain.He also heard the views put forth by block coordinators of the anti-drug campaign during the review meeting.Mundian directed the district administration to make the treatment and awareness campaign for drug victims more effective so that they could return to the mainstream of society and become partners in progress.He said creating a sporting culture was important to wean youth away from drugs. For this, the state government’s “Khedan Vatan Punjab Diyan” tournament is beginning from September 5 and is open to participants ranging from students to citizens above 70 years of age.Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chaba said the district administration, on the directions of the state government, was working with full dedication to check the drug menace. He assured the minister that the administration would work even more diligently to eliminate the social evil.
