A WOMAN suffered a seizure after being repeatedly raped in a secluded park by a man she had met in a nightclub.

The victim had been out with pals in South Shields and ended up in Industry nightclub before being separated from friends and meeting Aiden Johnson, 25.

They kissed and swapped details before leaving the club together at around 5am when the woman said she needed to get a taxi home.

Johnson offered to help get her one as he led her through a housing estate, which prosecutors said was “on the pretext of finding a taxi”.

He then attempted to lift her dress up but she told him she wasn’t interested in having sex with him.

Newcastle Crown Court was told he then led her to a park where she stumbled to the floor.

Prosecutor Ben Sayers said Johnson then “seized the opportunity” to carry out the first part of the sex attack.

Mr Sayers told the court: “Ignoring her resistance, he continued to subject her to further sexual acts. She repeatedly told him to stop.”

He raped her three times in total as well as sexually assaulting her.

Mr Sayers said: “She told him throughout she did not want to do anything. He ignored her protests and her efforts to push and kick him off. He tried to reassure her it was all fine.”

During the brutal attack, the woman suffered a seizure and when she came round she told Johnson she had been sexually abused once and didn’t need it again.

Johnson told her, he “wasn’t like that”.

He left in a taxi and asked her to go with him but she refused.

She called her family and later reported the attack.

When he was arrested, Johnson claimed he went to the park hoping for sex but said none occurred.

However, his DNA was found on her underwear.

The woman said in a victim impact statement: “What happened to me has completely ruined my life.

“I haven’t been the same person since and don’t think I ever will be.

“The trauma got so bad I took myself to a bridge to end my life.

“I’ve been diagnosed with PTSD.

“I think about what happened from the minute I wake up until I go to sleep. I can’t switch off. I have constant nightmares.

“I’ve tried all the support there is but still feel broken. I most likely will be on medication for the rest of my life so I can feel somewhat human and have some control of my body.

“I’m scared to be alone in public in case something like this happens again.

“I didn’t do anything wrong. I trusted someone to help me get home and they used that trust to hurt me, so I don’t trust anyone.

“This has taken everything from me, my confidence, my mental health, sense of safety and my trust.

“It’s hard to put into words how much this has destroyed me.”

Johnson, who has a caution for sexual assault when he was a youth, was found guilty of three counts of rape, attempted rape and assault by penetration.

He was imprisoned for eight years and has been put on the sex offenders register for life and was also given a restraining order.

Judge Sarah Mallett told him: “Your conduct that night has devastated her life as it has your own.”

Defending Johnson, Jane Foley said Johnson continues to maintain the sexual activity was consensual and has a supportive family.

The court was told he had led a “productive life”.
