MANCHESTER UNITED were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Brighton – despite leading 2-0 after 45 minutes.

And it is the first time they have lost from a two-goal lead at home for 50 YEARS.

And, incredibly, it is the first time since 1984 that United have thrown away a half-time lead at Old Trafford.

Shea Lacey and Mason Mount gave United the perfect start as Michael Carrick’s side went two up inside ten minutes.

Charalampos Kostoulas pulled one back just before half-time.

Then Pascal Gross and Maxim De Cuyper turned the game on its head within five second-half minutes.

And that smashed United’s proud record of not losing a home match when winning at the break which dated back 42 years.

The last time it happened at Old Trafford was a 2-1 defeat to Ipswich in May 1984 – more than 550 home games ago.
