Ram Gopal Varma slams top Bollywood producer who said ‘north audience will puke on this guy’s face’ after watching Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ | Telugu Movie News

Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again expressed his admiration for director Sukumar’s blockbuster hit ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, featuring Allu Arjun in the lead role. In a recent conversation, Varma recalled a time when a prominent Bollywood producer dismissed the first instalment of the ‘Pushpa’ franchise. The filmmaker remarked that the producer “must be having nightmares now” following Pushpa’s success.During an interview with Pinkvilla, Ram Gopal Varma highlighted the stark contrast between Bollywood and Telugu cinema’s storytelling styles, asserting that the Hindi film industry would not be able to recreate the essence of a film like ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’. He clarified that it was not a matter of Bollywood lacking the capability to make such a film, but rather that, in his view, people from the North “can’t think like that.”Allu Arjun Gets Interim Relief: BJP, BRS Leaders Slam Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Over ‘Unfair Arrest’“I don’t want to name the producer… he’s quite a big producer. When Pushpa 1 was released, he told someone I know after watching the film that the North audience would puke on this guy’s face,” he added.Clarifying the intent behind the producer’s comment, Varma explained that it was not a direct criticism of Allu Arjun but rather a reflection of Bollywood’s preference for conventional, glamorous protagonists. He stated that Bollywood audiences favour actors with six-packs and traditionally good looks. “He (the producer) must be having nightmares now. It’s a sensibility difference,” he added. After the massive success of ‘Pushpa 2′, Ram took to his X (formerly Twitter) account and wrote, “It is extremely rare for Indian films to have sharply etched characters, and it is even rarer for a star to ignore his own image and literally become the character. Seeing a character like PUSHPA is one of those extremely rare occurrences where, as a viewer, I genuinely believed that a character like Pushpa could truly exist in reality.”’Pushpa 2: The Rule’ hit theatres on December 6 last year and emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024. According to official reports from the filmmakers, the movie amassed over Rs 1,831 crore globally.
