A Mahindra pick-up vehicle fell into the canal on the Jagera Canal Bridge on the Malerkotla road near Dehlon late at night.About 25 people were traveling in the truck (Chota Hathi), and in the incident, six people, including children, died while 5 are missing.After the accident, SSP Khanna Jyoti Yadav, DC Himanshu Jain, MLA Manvinder Singh Giaspura, and other officials from the police and administration rushed to the spot.Divers were engaged to fish out people who had drowned in the canal. As per the information, all the people were returning to their village, Manakwal, after visiting Mata Naina Devi in Himachal Pradesh.According to the people in the vehicle, the pickup vehicle was overloaded. While overtaking a vehicle, it suddenly lost its balance and plunged into the canal.SSP Dr Jyoti Yadav said that at around 9:45 pm, information was received that a pickup full of passengers had overturned and fallen into the Jageda canal. After this, the police and administration team reached the spot.The injured were sent to different hospitals. This accident happened due to overloading.The SSP said six people had died in the accident while some suffered injuries and were undergoing treatment. Sarpanch Kesar Singh of village Manakwal, who also reached the spot, said that on July 26, a total of 25 people from the village went to visit Mata Naina Devi in a pick-up vehicle and met with an accident while returning home. Some injured were also referred to Ahmedgarh Mandi while some were rushed to Ludhiana and Khanna hospitals.
