The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested AAP Sarpanch Parminder Singh alias Pamma from Kalsian village in Tarn Taran on Wednesday in connection with a drug-related case.The central agency, in a joint operation with Border Security Force (BSF), had seized 8.8 kg heroin, 5.6 kg methamphetamine (popularly known as ‘ICE’) and 3 kg opium, and arrested three drug peddlers on February 16 at Kakkar and Pandori villages. Their interrogation led the bureau to the AAP sarpanch, and more arrests are likely in the case during further investigation, according to NCB sources. Pamma was produced in the Ajnala court on Wednesday and sent to two-day police remand.A senior NCB official, who wished to remain anonymous, said several names, including Paramjit Singh Pamma’s, had surfaced during the interrogation of Jaspal Singh alias Jassa of Ajnala, who was held with the contraband on February 16. Along with Jassa, the agency had arrested two more drug peddlers.Pamma’s arrest has led to backlash from opposition leaders.Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said on his X handle that crores of rupees were being spent on advertising the so-called anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashia Virudh’ by the ruling party, but in reality, their own leaders were being held with huge quantity of drugs.Senior SAD leader Virsa Singh Valtoha announced Pamma’s arrest on social media, saying he was also president of Village Defence Committee, constituted against cross-border smuggling of drugs.
