A Canadian journalist’s misplaced AirPods have become an unlikely social media sensation. Claire Hanna, who was travelling to cover the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics, left her AirPods on an Air Canada flight from Toronto to Rome. The earbuds, which fell under her seat, are now being tracked across the world, with their location shifting between Rome’s Fiumicino Airport and Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.Hanna shared her bizarre experience on X, writing, “The Air Canada desk called the plane to search for them and said they couldn’t find them. Now I’m tracking them around the world.” Screenshots of the AirPods’ location, tracked through her partner’s phone, showed “Girlfriend’s AirPods Pro” moving across continents.Social media users are invested in the AirPods’ journey, with many sharing funny reactions and similar experiences. One commenter wrote, “This is actually so cool — maybe not for your music-listening activities and phone calls, but if you somehow end up with these again, what a journey.”Another shared a similar experience, “One time I dropped an AirPod onto the floor during a flight. Couldn’t find it. Searched for it when it landed. Found it in the plane’s garbage. The flight attendant looked real nervous when I told her I was looking for an AirPod.”Air Canada responded to Hanna’s post, offering to help track down the lost earbuds.Modern tracking technology has added a new dimension to lost items, allowing owners to follow their belongings in real-time.
