The Sikh Sadbhawna Dal, which spearheaded the stir against the alleged 328 missing saroops of the Guru Granth Sahib, on Thursday urged Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj to take action against those not cooperating in the SIT probe into the issue. The organisation also requested Gargaj to summon the politicians who made political statements during the visit to the Banga shrine, where the saroops were allegedly found. The requests come amid raging controversy over the issue after the state government last month lodged an FIR and constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the issue.Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier claimed that 139 of the saroops were traced to Banga’s Rasokhana Shri Nabh Kanwal Raja Sahib, a charge rejected by the shrine.Later, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema gave a clean chit to the shrine. A day later, he made another U-turn, saying it was the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) that had found the rasokhana records in order. The saroops had allegedly gone missing from the SGPC records between 2013 and 2015. It is the gurdwara panel that prints and makes available the saroops. The SGPC had earlier been accused of not cooperating in the probe. It had also warned the AAP government against “interfering” in Sikh matters.Later, the Akal Takht ordered the SGPC to cooperate in the probe. The Sikh Sadbhawna Dal has now accused the parties to politicise a religious issue.Seeking intervention of Gargaj in a memorandum submitted today, the organisation urged him to take action against those who were not complying with his directions to cooperate in the probe.Avtar Singh, vice-chairman of the Sikh Sadbhawna Dal, brushed aside the allegations of the SGPC and the SAD that the case was filed in a hurry. He said his organisation had been protesting over it for the past five years. In the memorandum, which was received by officials of the Akal Takht, the organisation accused SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema, AAP leaders Harpal Singh Cheema, Harjot Singh Bains, Malwinder Singh Kang, Sukhwinder Sukhi, Congress’ Charanjit Singh Channi and Rana Gurjit Singh, for politicising the issue. The organisation sought immediate action against Sukhbir and Cheema by directing them to resign from their positions besides banning them from participating in religious activities for hurting religious sentiments by “supporting followers of the shrine for votes”.
