Iran said it would make detailed proposals in the next two weeks to close gaps in nuclear talks with the United States, a US official said on Tuesday.“Progress was made, but there are still a lot of details to discuss. The Iranians said they would come back in the next two weeks with detailed proposals to address some of the open gaps in our positions,” said the official. The two nations reached an understanding on main “guiding principles” in talks aimed at resolving their longstanding nuclear dispute, but that did not mean a deal was imminent, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said.Just as talks began on Tuesday, the Iranian state media said Iran would temporarily shut part of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil supply route, due to “security precautions” while Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards conducted military drills there.US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner took part in the Geneva talks, which were being mediated by Oman, a source said, alongside Araqchi.Iran’s President Pezeshkian said Tehran would never abandon its peaceful nuclear programme.
