When Indian fans wish me “best of luck”, I ask back, “Do you mean it?” West Indies coach Darren Sammy said, bursting into laughter as mediapersons quizzed him about the massive crowd for India at Eden Gardens tomorrow. Sammy, who led West Indies to the T20 World Cup title at Eden Gardens in 2016, added, “I love being in Kolkata.” West Indies have played two matches here in this T20 World Cup edition and feel comfortable. “If we win here and reach the semis, it will be massive. It’s been 10 years since we made the semis, so yes, there will be celebrations,” he said, adjusting his cross pendant necklace. Asked if DJ Bravo has penned a victory song already, Sammy grinned: “I’m not sure about that, but we have our rituals and we will be celebrating.” Coach Sammy reiterated they knew beforehand that any team aiming to win this World Cup must overcome India. “We’re going to play a good game to come out victorious. All my soldiers are ready for battle.”Sammy revealed that they have plans for each Indian player to beat them as was shown by Proteas the other day. “South Africa has shown that India is beatable, but you have some extremely good power hitters. Last time I heard, Varun Chakaravarthy was still the No.1 bowler in T20 cricket. We respect every opposition.”
