A 45-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in her room in the Sandhu Colony area of Amritsar on Thursday.The woman was identified as Vandana. Station house officer Harparkash Singh said the police took the body into possession and sent it for autopsy.As per the initial probe, she was alone at home when she took the extreme step. The incident came to light when the people in the neighbourhood saw the smoke coming out of the house.They immediately alarmed the police. When the police reached the spot, it was too late as she had died of burn injuries.Initial investigations revealed that she used to work as an Aanganwari worker. She arrived home at around 1 pm, bolted the doors from inside, and allegedly set herself ablaze.Police said they had initiated an inquiry to determine what led her to take the extreme step.
