A delegation of the Punjab Arhtiya Association met Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at his residence here, raising concerns over the ongoing crisis faced by commission agents in Punjab.The delegation said around 40,000 arhtiyas, nearly 1.25 lakh munims and 6-7 lakh workers were linked to the system. Ongoing difficulties have led to a strike, impacting business and livelihoods during the crucial procurement season. Despite talks with the Punjab Government, no solution could be worked out, they added.Expressing concern, Saini said he had observed distress among farmers, traders and labourers during his visits to Punjab. He alleged that the AAP government was not taking effective steps. “The policies of the current government have weakened Punjab’s economic condition and pushed the state towards financial distress,” he said.Targeting the Punjab leadership, he said, “There is still time for the people of Punjab to take corrective steps,” asserting that “only the BJP can provide a government that works for the welfare of farmers, arhtiyas, and traders.”
