Renu Bhatia, Chairperson, Haryana State Commission for Women, on Friday directed Panipat and Panchkula police to arrest singer Badshah and seize his passport after he failed to appear before the panel regarding the controversy linked to his song ‘Tateeree’.Bhatia had summoned Badshah before the commission in Panipat by 3 pm on March 13. A panel of his advocates appeared before the commission and said that Badshah couldn’t come due to some professional engagements. Bhatia, while interacting with mediapersons, said that he was summoned to appear before the commission and present his views between 11 pm and 3 pm. But he didn’t do so. So, the commission directed Panipat and Panchkula police to arrest him immediately. Already, a look-out circular (LOC) has been issued against him, she said.Bhatia said that she has also written to Chairperson, National Women Commission, to ban the songs and shows of Badshah.A controversy had erupted after the release of his ‘Tateeree’ song earlier this month. Savita Arya, a social worker, had filed a complaint alleging that the video portrayed women in a “disrespectful” manner. The visuals show girls dressed in school uniform dancing on a Haryana Roadways bus and making “inappropriate gestures”. The police have registered cases against Badshah in Panchkula and Jind. Savita Arya was present during the hearing today. In a media byte, Badshah’s counsel Akshay Dahiya, who appeared before the commission, said that they came with an authority letter from the rapper. He requested the chairperson to give Badshah more time to appear before the commission. Dahiya further said that they didn’t receive the summons but they appeared before the commission on their own. “We are ready to apologise. We came today as per law and we will present our side as per law,” he said.
