Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has voiced his strong displeasure regarding the spread of vulgarity through social media reels under the name of the Maha Kumbh. Calling it a misrepresentation of a sacred tradition, Ramdev stated, “The grand festival of Sanatan Dharma, the Maha Kumbh, where our roots are deeply connected, is a sacred celebration. It is a pious festival. Some people are associating obscenity, intoxication, and inappropriate behavior with the Maha Kumbh – this is not the true essence of the festival.”Addressing the recent declaration of former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni as a Mahamandaleshwar, Ramdev added, “Certain individuals, who were indulging in worldly pleasures just yesterday, suddenly transform into saints or even acquire titles like Mahamandaleshwar in a single day.”In his interaction with the media, Baba Ramdev expressed concern about the misuse of the Maha Kumbh’s name, saying, “…some have become Mahamandaleshwar. Simply adding the title of ‘Baba’ to someone’s name or promoting indecent acts and reels in the name of Kumbh is unacceptable. The true essence of the Kumbh is the elevation of humanity to divinity, sainthood, and spiritual awakening.” Highlighting the depth of Sanatan Dharma, he explained, “Sanatan is about experiencing, living, and expanding its eternal truths. It requires years of penance. It took us 50 years of rigorous discipline to achieve saintliness. Being a sadhu is a significant achievement, and becoming a Mahamandaleshwar is even greater. But nowadays, I see people being hastily given this title without the necessary dedication. This should not happen.”Earlier, Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham had also raised objections to Mamta Kulkarni being declared a Mahamandaleshwar, echoing similar sentiments about maintaining the sanctity of such revered titles.
