Central jail authorities, in coordination with the police, apprehended an outsourced Health Department employee posted at the jail with 68.25 grams of ‘chitta’ (heroin) on Monday.The arrest came hours after the entire staff of the Kot Shamir police post in Bathinda district was transferred on the verbal orders of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over alleged inaction against drug-related activities on Sunday.The action followed a tip-off, leading to the recovery of heroin from the car of Sagar Singh, a lab technician posted at the jail. He, along with his vehicle, was handed over to the Bathinda Cantt police.“We acted on specific intelligence and coordinated with the local police, following which the accused was apprehended and heroin was recovered from his car,” said Hemant Sharma, Superintendent of Central Jail Bathinda.A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is under way.
