As the family of 34-year-old Davinderpal Singh Natt, an advocate and son of late Congress leader Sukhraj Singh Natt, has refused to perform his cremation until the accused are arrested, the police have further tightened the noose around the accused by freezing more than two dozen of their bank accounts.Davinderpal had allegedly shot himself dead on March 29, accusing a Chandigarh-based builder and his two sons of not returning nearly Rs 10 crore invested by him and his friends.Earlier, at the request of the police, the Bureau of Immigration had issued a look-out circular against the accused, who are currently at large.Notably, the deceased’s family has formed a 13-member committee seeking justice and has announced that it will neither give consent for the post-mortem nor cremate the body until the accused are arrested. The body has been kept at the mortuary of the local civil hospital for the past six days.Former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also visited the family on Friday and extended his support.Advocate Gurwinder Singh Mann, president of the District Bar Association, Bathinda, who is a member of the committee, said, “We are regularly in contact with the police, but the accused are still at large. The family has already announced that it will neither give consent for the post-mortem nor perform the cremation until the accused are arrested.”Bathinda SP (City) Narinder Singh said, “All bank accounts of the accused have been frozen, and a look-out circular has also been issued against them. Teams have already been dispatched to various locations to arrest them. We are trying our best to nab them at the earliest.”Notably, before taking the extreme step, the deceased had recorded a video and left behind a note, claiming he had invested around Rs 4 crore of his own and Rs 6-7 crore belonging to his friends with a Chandigarh-based builder, Binder Pal Mittal, and his sons, Prateek Mittal and Bharat Mittal, owner of Sushma Buildtech Ltd, who allegedly failed to return the money. They have been booked on charges of abetment to suicide. The deceased’s father, Sukhraj Singh Natt, had served as chairman of the Punjab State Cooperative Handloom Federation Limited (WEAVCO) and had contested three Assembly elections from the Joga and Maur constituencies before his death in May 2020.
