Bhullar’s release: SGPC slams Delhi govt; disappointed, says SAD president

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami on Tuesday slammed the decision rejecting the plea for the premature release of 1993 Delhi bomb blast convict Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar.He termed it an “act of injustice against Sikhs” by the Delhi’s BJP government, he said earlier the AAP government there had rejected Bhullar’s release petition multiple times.He said while the Sentence Review Board of the Delhi government had recommended the remission of sentences for several prisoners, the case of Bhullar, who is jail for the past 33 years, was rejected.He described this as a violation of human rights.’Deeply pained’Chandigarh: Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed his disappointment over the decision.In a post on X, Sukhbir said he was deeply pained to learn that the Delhi Government once again rejected Bhullar’s plea for premature release.“Having endured over 30 years of imprisonment, Prof Bhullar deserves a fair and compassionate review in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directions,” he said, citing Bhullar’s deteriorating physical and mental health.“I strongly urge the Delhi Chief Minister to expedite a fresh review of the case, ensuring Prof Bhullar receives the just and humane treatment he merits,” he said.
