The Punjab Government on Monday promoted Anti-Gangster expert Bikramjit Singh Brar, PPS, as Superintendent of Police (SP). Brar has been involved in encounters with many gangsters, including the killing of two shooters, Jagroop Roopa and Mannu Kusa, of singer Sidhu Moosewala. He was also part of operations that neutralised gangsters Vicky Gonder, Prema Lahoria, and Ankit Bhadu, among others.Brar has braved bullets in various encounters and had famously taken on wanted gangster Goldy Brar in a leaked phone conversation. Bikram’s father, Baldev Singh Brar, PPS, was also SP, Detective, Patiala, when he was martyred during terrorism in 1988 at Patiala.During his posting as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Anti-Gangster Task Force, Operations Punjab, Brar played an instrumental role in India and overseas operations that led to the neutralisation and arrest of various dreaded gangsters, smugglers, terrorists, and arms suppliers involved in organised crime in Punjab and other states of the country.Brar’s elder brother is a senior PPS officer and is presently serving as Senior Superintendent of Police, Vigilance, Ludhiana.His distinguished service has earned him the following prestigious honours:First President Police Medal for Gallantry (2011): For police action against dreaded gangsters of the Rajiv Raja gang.Second President Police Medal for Gallantry (2020): For the neutralisation of three gangsters in Rajasthan, including Vicky Gonder and Prema Lahoria.Third President Police Medal for Gallantry (2021): For bringing down dreaded gangster Ankit Bhadu and rescuing hostages, including two minor girls.Fourth President Police Medal for Gallantry (2021): For neutralising two shooters, Jagroop alias Rupa and Manu Kusa, involved in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.Fifth President Police Medal for Gallantry (2024): For the neutralisation of three notorious gangsters, including Tejinder Singh alias Teja.Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation (2021): For the deportation of dreaded gangster Sukhpreet Budha from Armenia.Union Home Minister’s Special Operations Medal (2022): For sharing actionable intelligence that led to the neutralisation of dreaded gangsters Jaipal Bhullar and Jassi Kharar in West Bengal.Chief Minister’s Rakshak Padak (2023): For the arrest of Yuvraj Singh alias Jora from a hotel after an exchange of fire, and for rescuing the guests and staff members of the hotel.For his contribution to various operations related to busting cross-border weapons and drug-smuggling nexuses, which led to the arrest of wanted terrorists, gangsters, and criminals, he has been rewarded with twenty-seven (27) Director General of Police Commendation Discs.
