The Faridkot police have named BJP district vice-president Amit Kumar Sharma, alias Mishra, in a case involving the recovery of a foreign-made pistol and ammunition.The investigation links Sharma to associates of the Goldy Brar gang. Following the development, the police have launched multiple raids to apprehend him.In response to being named in the FIR, Sharma has filed an anticipatory bail plea in the District Courts here. The court has scheduled the hearing on April 10. According to police officials, the investigation uncovered deep-rooted links between the BJP leader and the criminal network.Investigations revealed fugitive suspect Ravi Singh was in telephonic contact with Amit Sharma. Sharma allegedly handled financial transactions for Ravi. The police claim both Ravi and Amit were the only individuals aware of the final recipient of the smuggled weapon. Faridkot DSP Tarlochan Singh said Sharma’s name was added to the case after establishing links” during the interrogation of previously arrested suspects.The case dates back to March 19, when the Central Investigation Agency staff of the Faridkot police conducted a raid at the New Grain Market and arrested Jagdeep Singh of Faridkot and Chetan Kumar, alias Chetu, of Ferozepur. They were caught with a Glock 9 mm foreign-made pistol and live cartridges. They were identified as henchmen working for the Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar.Following their interrogation, the police named two more persons, namely Ravi Singh and Sunny Singh. While Sunny has been arrested, Ravi is still at large.
