Sangrur police on Monday cracked a blind murder case and arrested seven accused, busting a gang allegedly involved in a series of thefts across multiple districts in recent months.The breakthrough came after investigators tracked the movement of suspects in crime-prone areas in the hours preceding recent incidents, officials said.Sangrur SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal said the team successfully traced a blind murder case that occurred in the jurisdiction of Bhawanigarh police station.“The investigation led to a gang involved in robbery and theft, following which seven accused were arrested. From their possession, a canter, a motorcycle, four stolen iron pipes, one stick, and the mobile phone of the deceased were recovered,” Chahal said.He further said that on April 7, information was received that Ramji Singh, a resident of Balad Kalan, who was guarding a borewell machine at a plot, had been murdered by unidentified persons during the intervening night of April 6 and 7.An FIR under Section 103 of the BNS was registered and special teams were constituted to solve the case.The accused identified as Asneh Pathak, Suraj Kumar, Ravinder Kumar, Monu Verma, Nitish Kumar and Munna Kumar, all residents of Mandi Gobindgarh, along with one juvenile, were arrested, the SSP said.Police said during interrogation, the accused confessed to having committed several other thefts. “More revelations are expected as the accused have a criminal past,” the SSP added.
