Air India on Monday extended the cancellations of all its flights to and from New York and Newark, till February 24, as airport operations in the two cities remained severely disrupted due to a powerful blizzard that swept across the US East Coast. In a travel advisory issued on Monday, the airline said heavy snow and adverse weather conditions had impacted airport operations, making it unsafe to operate flights. The carrier confirmed that services on February 24 stand cancelled, while ground teams have been deployed to assist affected passengers with rebooking and support. The latest cancellations come after Air India had already suspended all its New York and Newark flights on February 23 following early warnings of a severe winter storm across the region. The decision, the airline said earlier, was taken as a precaution to ensure passenger and crew safety amid forecasts of heavy snow and strong winds. The disruption is part of a wider aviation crisis unfolding across the US Northeast. Authorities have issued blizzard warnings, with reports suggesting that the storm could dump over 20 inches of snow in parts of New York and surrounding areas, accompanied by strong winds and near-zero visibility. The extreme weather has triggered large-scale travel disruptions beyond Indian carriers. Thousands of flights have been cancelled across major airports in the region, while road travel restrictions and emergency measures have also been imposed to deal with the situation.Airlines globally have been forced to adjust schedules, with several international carriers either cancelling or rescheduling flights to the US East Coast as the storm continues to impact operations.
