BSc nursing student dies by suicide; teacher, friends accused of harassment

A 21-year-old third year BSc nursing student, Khushpreet Kaur, died by suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her hostel room at Baba Farid University Regional Center, Goindwal Sahib, on Thursday night. The incident has sparked allegations of harassment by university staff, which the administration denies.Khushpreet’s parents, Amrik Singh and Baljit Kaur, claim she was mentally harassed by her class teacher for months, and despite informing the Principal, no action was taken. A WhatsApp chat, shared with police, suggests Khushpreet accused a teacher and friends of forcing her to take this extreme step.Investigating officer ASI Nishan Singh of the Goindwal Sahib said that the body of the deceased girl has been sent for postmortem at the Civil Hospital Tarn Taran and said that investigation is being conducted based on the statements of the deceased’s family members.Principal Charanjit Kaur denies allegations, citing good relations with students and immediate police notification.
