Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Sunday said the drug menace could not be uprooted only through government measures and the people would have to wage a decisive battle to eliminate it.He also stressed the need to strengthen village defence committees to identify and stop drug traffickers.“The problem of drugs cannot be eliminated by government efforts alone, therefore, every section of society — parents, teachers and youth — will have to play an active role together,” he said addressing members of defence committees at Nishan-e-Sikhi Sansthan in Khadoor Sahib. He said unemployment was the root causes of drug addiction. “If the youth get employment and involved in creative activities, they can avoid this evil,” Kataria stressed.Earlier in the day, Kataria visited the Jain temple at Vairowal in Tarn Taran. He also interacted with members of the Jain community.
