The Union Government has approved a Rs 37.46-crore project to relay the rising main pipeline that connects sewage treatment plant (STP) to the Sayeed Wala drain here. The treatment plant was connected to the drain via the pipeline a decade ago to prevent sewage overflow in Abohar city and benefit farmers on the 14.5 km link to avail treated water for irrigation purpose.Legislator Sandeep Jakhar said 80 per cent of the project cost would be borne by the Union Government, while the remaining 20 per cent would be contributed by the Punjab Government.Due to the dilapidated condition of the rising main pipeline, residents of Chirag Dhani, Killianwali and Sayeed Wala villages were facing serious problems. The Abohar legislator said the project had been approved under the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund and it would improve drainage in the area.He said under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), 200 beneficiaries in Khuian Sarwar block had received around Rs 1.40 crore through the DBT.Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar had visited several waterlogged villages in August 2025 and assured financial assistance to the needy.
