A long-standing demand of millions of followers of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Ji reached a historic milestone today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Adampur Airport would be named after Guru Ravidas Ji. The announcement was made during the Prime Minister’s visit to Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Punjab. The decision comes months after Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal had strongly raised the issue during Zero Hour in the last session of Parliament. Dr Chabbewal had urged the Union Government to honour the faith and sentiments of the Ravidasia community by naming the airport after the revered saint and social reformer.Reacting to the announcement, Dr Chabbewal said he feels fortunate to have consistently taken up this sacred issue at every available platform. “I am lucky that I raised this matter earlier in the Punjab Assembly when I was an MLA, and later took it up in Parliament as an MP. Today, seeing this long-pending demand fulfilled gives me immense satisfaction,” he said.He added that the decision had boosted the faith and morale of millions of devotees for whom Guru Ravidas Ji was a guiding spiritual force and a symbol of equality and social justice.Dr Chabbewal also expressed gratitude to the Government of Punjab, stating that the state government had passed and forwarded a formal resolution to Parliament in support of renaming Adampur Airport in honour of Guru Ravidas Ji. He said the combined efforts at the state and central levels played a crucial role in achieving this historic outcome. The announcement has been widely welcomed across Punjab and among Ravidasia followers across the country and abroad, who view it as a long-awaited recognition of Guru Ravidas Ji’s legacy and teachings.
