Adding a new dimension to modern day warfare, a Chinese AI startup, MizarVision, is publishing high-resolution satellite imagery of every US military base, every warship and even the deployment of stealth jets like the F-22 operating in the area. The company officially known as Mishang Technology Hangzhou Company Limited puts out images which are then getting shared on social media by accounts linked to Chinese state-run media. For New Delhi, the Chinese intervention in West Asia is a reminder of how Beijing’s satellites provided real-time information about India’s military activities during Operation Sindoor against Pakistan in May last year.Last year, post-Operation Sindoor, the Deputy Chief of Army, Lt Gen Rahul R Singh, had revealed that Pakistan was receiving “live updates” and intelligence regarding Indian troop movements and weapon deployments. The intelligence provided by China reportedly included targeting data and logistics information to help Pakistan counter Indian actions during the four-day conflict.Analysts have found that the founding team of MizarVision has backgrounds in Huawei’s communication systems and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The threat is not just the satellite images but the AI-powered, automated analysis that converts vast amounts of data into actionable intelligence for adversaries, analysts opine. The images are “open source”, and it can help anyone in seeing the targets and US assets. The intelligence-sharing looks to be aligned with Iranian interests. MizarVision even published images showing US aircraft transfers to southern Israel, fighter deployments across Saudi Arabia, Qatar and naval buildups in the Arabian Sea.The releases expanded to include detailed imagery of bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE, with AI labelling identifying specific aircraft types, air defence configurations and troop concentrations. One release catalogued approximately 2,500 individual US military assets across the region.China’s Jilin-1 satellite constellation is a network of over 100 commercial earth observation satellites operated by Chang Guang Satellite Technology with sharp imaging.
