Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said that the killing of a Home Guard jawan and an ASI in the border village of Gurdaspur was sponsored by Pakistan. He said this while addressing the new Punjab Police recruits at PAP ground in Jalandhar after their passing out parade. The CM said that the police had attempted to arrest all three of them, but the one who had attempted to fire at the police had been gunned down.”The police, however, have arrested the remaining two, who had links with Pakistan. The enemy country keeps on disturbing India through Punjab. This is why I keep saying that the Punjab Police serves not just Punjab, but the entire country protecting the porous borders which are like the Gateway of India,” he said.Mann added, “Along with the BSF, we keep on protecting the country against illegal activity, drug supply and use of drones. We have to keep on updating ourselves by purchasing the latest technical equipment and vehicles so as to thwart the activities of the hostile neighbour.”Mann also hit out against the previous governments saying, “They left a blemish on us. The blemish does not have any colour. But this one has. It is white and they call it ‘chitta’. But we shall fight it out and I am saying that with full responsibility. We have started the second version of ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ involving commoners and working on secret information being provided by them.”He lauded the efforts of the Sadak Suraksha Force saying that even Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had mentioned that the accidental deaths in Punjab had come down by 48 per cent owing to these active teams that reach the accident site within six minutes to provide rescue and relief. He further motivated the police saying, “I have often seen that 70-80 per cent policemen do not wear watches. Reaching at workplace, they do not know by what time they shall reach home. Our Punjab Police is known to work constantly for as long as 40-50 hours during operations.”Mann, who stayed over in Jalandhar, was accompanied by his wife Dr Gurpreet Kaur, at the event. DGP Punjab gave figures of Punjab Police recruitments since the past four years. “We have already issued appointment letters to 12,010 cops. From next month, a batch of 1,900 cops shall join their training. The training of 1,746 cops has also been completed. We have started the process of recruitment for 3,400 more posts”, he said.
