Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Mann on Thursday ordered a special girdawri to assess crop damage due to recent hailstorms and unseasonal rain in the Malwa belt.During his visit to Fazilka, the CM, while addressing a gathering at the local grain market, directed officials to carry out a special girdawri of the affected crops.Notably, unseasonal rain and hailstorms over the past few days have caused extensive damage to standing wheat crops in the Malwa belt, particularly in Fazilka, Muktsar, Mansa, and Bathinda districts. According to reports, thousands of acres of farmland have been affected due to the inclement weather.During his visit, Mann also unveiled several development projects. Speaking on the occasion, he said that, as far as development works are concerned, he alone was enough to take on the opposition leaders, whom he accused of ruining Punjab. He alleged that they deliberately kept people illiterate and poor so that their generations could continue to rule the state. He added that their plans had been shattered after his government came to power, claiming that his administration had uplifted the state to new heights through historic development works.Mann also highlighted key initiatives of his government, including the introduction of health schemes, education reforms, ensuring canal water reaches tail-end villages, and providing financial assistance of Rs 1,000–1,500 per month to women in Punjab. At the demand of residents, he also announced that a plan would be prepared in the next phase to set up a medical college in the Fazilka district. The CM also distributed cheques to the farmers whose crops had been damaged due to recent floods.
