A local court has granted exemption from personal appearance to Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia in a case registered in Chandigarh.The case pertains to a 2021 protest in which Majithia and 23 other leaders were booked. According to the police, several Akali Dal leaders were headed towards the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh when barricades were set up to stop them. The protesters allegedly broke through the barricades, obstructed police work and violated government orders.The police claimed that some personnel were injured during clashes with protesters. The Sector 3 police station later filed a chargesheet in the district courts. Majithia’s counsel Rajesh Kumar Rai sought exemption citing the leader’s participation in an important party meeting.
