Welcoming the BJP’s decision to solo in the Assembly polls, SAD chief Sukhbir Badal sought to draw a line between regional interests and “Delhi-based parties”.“The SAD is a regional force that prioritises Punjab and its people. Our aim is to fight for rights, not just to grab power,” Badal said, adding that Delhi-based parties showed “scant regard” for local sentiments. He said leaders in Delhi — whether Amit Shah, Narendra Modi or the Gandhi family — could not care for Punjab the way former CM Parkash Singh Badal did. He urged people to think carefully and act to safeguard Punjab and its youth. The SGPC mirrored this skepticism, with spokesperson Gurcharan Singh Grewal pointing out that critical Sikh issues remained unaddressed under the saffron party’s regime. He specifically highlighted the stalled release of ‘Bandi Singhs’ (Sikh prisoners), who remained in jail despite completing their sentence.
