A 27-year-old SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) commando with the Delhi Police Special Cell succumbed to her injuries at a Ghaziabad hospital after she was allegedly attacked by her husband with a dumbbell at their home in west Delhi’s Mohan Garden.Kajal was posted at the Greater Kailash-1 police station and had married Ankur in 2023.The accused is employed as a clerk with the Ministry of Defence.According to police, the woman was initially admitted to a hospital in Delhi’s Mohan Garden in a critical condition. On January 24, she was referred to Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad for advanced treatment.She died late on January 27 during treatment. The hospital informed the Sihani Gate police station in Ghaziabad about the death, following which the Delhi Police were alerted.A postmortem examination was conducted on Tuesday.Later that night, a Delhi Police team reached the Sihani Gate police station and collected the postmortem report and other relevant evidence.Police said a case had already been registered at the Mohan Garden police station on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Nikhil. The accused husband, Ankur, was arrested on January 22 and has been sent to judicial custody. In his complaint, the victim’s brother, Nikhil, who is a constable posted at the Parliament Street police station, said Kajal and Ankur had a love marriage and had tied the knot in 2023.He alleged that although the marriage was a love marriage, the woman was subjected to dowry demands just weeks after the wedding.He claimed she was mentally and physically harassed by her in-laws to pressure her. According to the complaint, a dispute broke out at the couple’s residence on January 22, during which the woman called her brother for help.While she was on the phone, her husband allegedly attacked her, striking her on the head multiple times and causing severe injuries. She was immediately rushed to Tara Hospital in Mohan Garden, where she was admitted in critical condition. The couple had a one-and-a-half-year-old son.
