A 30-year-old woman was shot dead in the middle of the road by her husband in Faridabad’s Palla police station area on Friday night over a family dispute. The accused fled the spot after the incident. An FIR was registered against him at Palla police station.According to the police, the deceased was identified as Sangeeta Devi, who had been living in Sunlight Colony here with her two children, having separated from her husband and in-laws. Her divorce case with her husband was pending in court, and she was also involved in some family dispute.The incident took place between 8 pm on Friday night in the Sunlight Colony of Basantpur village. Locals said that Sangeeta Devi had gone out and was not found at home when her husband and some in-laws reached her home. When they didn’t find her at home, they started to return but soon after seeing Sangeeta coming down the street, they stopped her.According to the police, an argument broke out between the two parties. It is alleged that the husband was carrying a weapon. As the hostility from her husband escalated, Sangeeta tried to defend herself and retreated, but he fired three rounds at her. Sangeeta sustained two bullet injuries and collapsed on the street. Hearing the gunfire, people in the area came out of their houses — seeing which the accused fled.After getting the information, the deceased’s father also reached the spot. With the help of neighbours,  injured Sangeeta was taken to a private hospital in Sector 31, where doctors declared her dead. The police sent the body for a post-mortem.“A case of murder has been registered and teams have been formed to arrest the accused, who is native of Bihar. Preliminary investigation revealed a divorce dispute between the husband and wife. A further probe is under way,” said inspector Satya Prakash, SHO of Palla police station.
