Nepal’s newly elected Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Saturday said he is “eager to work closely” with India while thanking PM Narendra Modi for his greetings after the oath-taking ceremony.Shortly after Shah’s swearing-in ceremony on Friday, PM Modi greeted him and said he was looking forward to working closely with his Nepalese counterpart to take forward India-Nepal ties. Replying to Modi’s post, the Nepalese PM’s office posted on X, “Thank you, PM @narendramodi for your kind words and warm wishes. I am eager to work closely with you to advance the multifaceted relations between our two countries for the common prosperity of our people.”Meanwhile, members of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Lennist) on Saturday staged demonstrations in different parts of Nepal to protest against the arrest of party chair and former PM KP Sharma Oli.CPN-UML leader Oli and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak were arrested on Saturday morning on charges of their involvement in suppressing the Gen Z movement of September 8 and 9 last year, in which 76 people, including around two dozen youths, were killed.Hundreds of activists gathered at Damak in Jhapa district of Koshi province, Pokhara municipality of Kaski district and Maitighar Mandala and Babarmahal of Kathmandu to protest Oli’s arrest.
