The demise of former ICC, BCCI and PCA president IS Bindra has cast a pall of gloom over the entire cricketing fraternity. To pay homage to him, the Hoshiarpur District Cricket Association (HDCA), along with players, recently observed two minutes of silence, and offered floral tributes to him at the HDCA Ground here.HDCA secretary Raman Ghai said, as BCCI president, Bindra took Indian cricket to new heights, and played a pivotal role in strengthening its identity at the national level by providing enhanced facilities to players, and promoting the game in a professional manner.Ghai added that, during his tenure as president of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), Bindra made significant contributions by establishing the international PCA Stadium at Mohali, and by playing a key role in the development of another international cricket stadium at Mullanpur.Owing to his sustained efforts, Punjab emerged strongly on the cricketing map, with structured facilities at the district level and systematic grooming of players, Ghai said.He added that Bindra’s contributions to cricket as president of the ICC, BCCI and the PCA, including its growth at international, national and state levels, would always be remembered.Under the leadership of HDCA president Daljeet Khela, office-bearers of HDCA, district cricket coaches, national-level players and several others paid tributes and offered floral wreaths to the former PCA president.Those present on the occasion included former international cricketer Bhupinder Singh, Vivek Sahni, JB Bahl, Subhash Sharma, Dr Pankaj Shiv, Thakur Yograj, Jatinder Sharma, Sahib Dayal, Manoj Ohri, coach Daljeet Singh, Davinder Kaur and Daljeet Dhiman.
