Michael Mayor, a 34-year-old man, is facing murder charges after being accused of fatally assaulting a one-year-old girl in Dayton, Ohio. The child, whose skull was fractured during the incident, succumbed to her injuries on December 20, weeks after the alleged attack on December 5.According to court records, Mayor was initially charged with six felony counts, including felonious assault and child endangerment. However, the charges were upgraded following the toddler’s death as per WHIO, a Dayton CBS outlet. Prosecutors claim the child’s injuries were directly caused by Mayor’s actions.Court files indicate that the baby girl died “as a result of the injuries inflicted upon her by” Mayor, as per The Mirror US.The incident reportedly occurred while the child was in the care of Mayor’s wife, who runs a babysitting service. On the morning of December 5, Mayor’s wife left the toddler in his care to escort other children to school. Upon her return, Mayor allegedly told her the child was napping on the bedroom floor. It wasn’t until 3 pm, after noticing the girl was still unresponsive, that the babysitter called emergency services.Piqua police documents detail the babysitter’s distressing 911 call, describing the baby as “pale, with head bruises, and confused about their origin.” The child was rushed to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with a fractured skull, subdural hematoma, and other severe injuries consistent with a “massive impact.”During their investigation, police questioned Mayor about the time he spent alone with the girl. According to the police report, Mayor admitted to shaking the child and slamming her onto the bedroom floor multiple times in frustration until she stopped crying. Official police reports allege that Mayor confessed to officers that “he ‘shook’ her, and when she cried louder, he began to ‘slam’ her on the floor of the bedroom. He stated this was not done on the blankets and he did this several times until she stopped crying.”He then left her on the floor, believing she had simply fallen asleep.Mayor was arrested on December 11 and remains in custody on a $1 million bond. A bond modification hearing is scheduled for January 2. The case has drawn significant attention, with authorities vowing to pursue justice for the young victim.
