Higher reaches of Kashmir received a fresh spell of snowfall overnight, bringing down the temperatures across the valley and bringing a cheer among tourists.Kashmir has been witnessing intermittent rains in the plains for the past many days, with upper reaches, including several tourist spots, receiving fresh snowfall.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), intermittent light and moderate rain and snow is expected at most places.“Temperatures have dipped considerably across the Valley after subsequent western disturbances,” said a weather official.On Friday, the IMD said a gradual rise in day temperature is expected from March 21 onwards across the Valley. “There’s a possibility of thunder, gusty winds (40-50 kmph), or Hailstorm at isolated places,” the department said, while advising farmers “to resume farm operations from March 21.”The fresh snow in Kashmir and higher reaches has also impacted the connectivity. While the Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained operational, officials said the Srinagar-Kargil road which connects J&K and Ladakh remained shut due to fresh snowfall.Also, officials said restoration work was underway on the Mughal Road, which connects the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri in the Jammu region with south Kashmir’s Shopian, had been closed for vehicular traffic.Meanwhile, in Leh, light to moderate snowfall occurred at many places in the past 24 hours. On Friday, Leh airport officials said flights were disrupted due to bad weather conditions. “Weather is expected to improve, so we also hope that flight operations will also return to normal,” said an airport official.
