Gangrape shocker on ambulance in Bihar, ally LJP rips into Nitish govt

Second time in nine days, ruling NDA partner Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) on Saturday questioned the Bihar Government led by ally JD(U) over “deteriorating” law and order in the state after a shocking gangrape of a woman in a moving ambulance. Paswan said he “regretted” having to support a government that was failing to manage law and order. The 26-year-old woman, who had fainted during a Home Guards recruitment drive at the Bihar Military Police Grounds in Gayaji on July 24, was allegedly gang-raped while being transported to a hospital in the ambulance. The FIR lodged on the woman’s complaint stated that the victim was gang-raped in the ambulance while it was on the move. A special investigation team and a forensic team were probing the allegations and the Bihar Police had arrested two suspects, the ambulance driver and the technician on board.Police personnel admitted that the CCTV data had confirmed the route the ambulance took and the timeline narrated by the complainant.Speaking to mediapersons in Patna today, the LJP (Ram Vilas) president said: “I have heard claims that the recent spurt in violent crimes is linked to the upcoming Assembly elections, and there are attempts to defame this government. Still, it is the responsibility of the administration to keep the law and order situation under control. I regret having to support a government which is failing on this count.”The Hajipur MP said the situation in the state had turned “scary”.The administrative failure was being blamed on both rank incompetence and connivance with criminals, he said, adding that almost every day, incidents of murder, kidnap, dacoity and rape were being reported from the state.“Authorities concerned have failed miserably to check the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Law and order have collapsed. The situation is almost out of control. It needs to be checked immediately,” he said.On July 17, the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Patna visit, Paswan had questioned the record of the JDU-led NDA on law and order in Bihar.“The morale of criminals is sky high,” he had said close on the heels of two murders — of industrialist Gopal Khemka and another of a prisoner out on parole for medical treatment in Patna’s Paras hospital where he was shot dead by five unidentified assailants.‘Regret having to support govt’“I regret having to support a government which is unable to prevent such crimes… The situation has, indeed, become scary,” — Chirag Paswan, ljp (ram vilas)‘Rule of demons’ in state: RJDRJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, who is the LoP in Bihar Assembly, alleged that Bihar was under the “rule of demons (rakshas raj)” and accused CM Nitish Kumar and “his two so-called deputies” of a “criminal silence” on such incidents.Remain aligned, Manjhi to ChiragUnion Minister and HAM (Secular) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi has urged Chirag Paswan to remain aligned with the NDA and not to repeat his confrontationist stance of the 2020 Bihar elections. “He (Paswan) should strengthen the NDA,” he said.
