The last surviving member of a Gurugram family devastated by the Malviya Nagar hotel fire has died, bringing to a close a tragedy that wiped out three generations of the same household within a week.Radheshyam Agrawal, a resident of Sector 46 in Gurugram, died on Tuesday morning at Max Hospital in Delhi, where he had been undergoing treatment for an illness. His death comes days after his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters were killed in the fire that tore through a hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on June 3.The family had travelled to Delhi for Agrawal’s treatment. While he remained admitted to hospital, his family stayed at a hotel in Hauz Rani in Malviya Nagar to be close to him. It was there that the fire broke out, turning what was meant to be a temporary stay into a catastrophe.Among those killed were Agrawal’s wife, his son Vivek Agrawal, a chartered accountant, Vivek’s wife, and the couple’s two daughters. Three relatives of the family also lost their lives in the blaze. After the fire, Agrawal was the only surviving member of the immediate family. He remained in hospital as the deaths of his loved ones shattered the household. With his death on Tuesday, the entire Agrawal family of Sector 46 has been wiped out.The Malviya Nagar fire claimed a total of 22 lives, including 13 foreign nationals, making it one of the deadliest such incidents in the capital in recent years. The tragedy also brought the hotel under scrutiny. During the investigation, it emerged that the establishment was allegedly operating in violation of rules. While permission had reportedly been granted for only six rooms, investigators found that 22 to 25 rooms had been constructed and were being used. Police also found that the hotel did not possess a Fire No-Objection Certificate (NOC).Police arrested the main accused, Lavkesh Bajaj, who allegedly ran the hotel without the required permissions or safety clearances. Investigators said he was present when the fire broke out but fled the spot instead of helping those trapped inside the hotel. For the Agrawal family, the investigation now unfolds amid a loss that cannot be reversed. What began as a hospital visit for an ailing father ended with the deaths of an entire family across three generations, leaving behind a story of a household erased within days.
