Gurugram created a flutter at the recently concluded India AI Impact Summit as the city emerged as one of the key leaders in hyperlocal logistics.Skye Air, a Gurugram-based drone delivery company, announced that after several successful pilot runs, it had started doorstep deliveries using drones and artificial intelligence-powered robots, ushering in a new phase in AI-powered logistics. With Gurugram among the top ecosystems for e-commerce expansion, the city has been chosen as the launchpad for this new delivery model.“We have connected Skye Port, our hyperlocal delivery port, with a physical AI infrastructure. We have made nearly 3.6 million drone deliveries in the last two-and-a-half years, saving over a thousand tons of carbon,” said Ankit Kumar, founder and CEO of Skye Air Mobility. Under this system, drones deliver parcels directly to secure smart mailboxes installed in housing societies and commercial complexes. The process is designed to function without manual intervention, ensuring efficiency and security in high-density urban environments.The company said drone deliveries not only cut delivery time but also helped ease congestion and reduce vehicular pollution. It may be noted that, according to a 2025 GMDA survey, mobility gig work and delivery systems have contributed significantly to increased vehicular density and emissions.According to Skye Air Mobility, while Gurugram has been chosen as the launchpad, the service is expected to expand to major cities across the country.“Gurugram will serve as the launchpad before scaling operations nationally and globally. In the future, we will take this to every location in the city and every area. India is the first country in the world where we are starting this. Its foundation has been laid here and we want to explore it first in Gurugram, then expand to other cities in India and eventually take it to the rest of the world,” the company announced at the AI summit.It said the company had entered into international partnerships to expand its automated delivery ecosystem.
