Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today addressed a large gathering of the Saini community even as he admitted that drug use was rampant in Punjab and asked why only the AAP government had taken the initiative against drugs and why earlier governments did not do so.The CM presided over the gathering at a local marriage palace. The Saini community holds sway in the Gurdaspur, Bhoa, Kahnuwan, Pathankot and Dinanagar belt. They include both Hindus and Sikhs, with many families practising a mix of traditions. Leaders impressed upon him to hold the meeting here because of “the community’s heavy presence in this area.”The CM did not make even a single political comment throughout his address and confined himself to addressing the problems of the Saini community. Nearly 3000 people attended the deliberations.He left without taking lunch citing “some important meeting in Panchkula.”The CM gave an example of how electricity was saved by the ruling BJP government in Haryana.“A majority of the agriculture motors in my state were asked to convert to solar energy. They are now running successfully after installing the solar-power system. In this way we have saved a lot of power. Other states, too, should replicate this idea,” he said.“Punjab is in the grip of a massive drug problem. I fail to understand why an anti-drug drive has been put into place now when it should have been done years earlier. After all, this problem did not surface overnight,” he said.
