Haryana Police DGP Ajay Singhal on Saturday launched ‘Abhedya’ app, the first of its kind in India, to block suspicious threat calls, extortion messages, stalking, and harmful digital content before they reach the user. The launch comes as the state recorded 178 extortion calls in 2024 and 107 in 2025.How the app will work? The app monitors incoming WhatsApp calls and messages from unknown numbers. It checks whether the number is an unsaved international number (genuine or virtual) or a virtual Indian number. If found suspicious, the system immediately rejects the call, blocks the number, and removes the notification, voice note or chat from the user’s phone. It will ensure that the protected individual does not come into contact with threatening, stalking, or abusive communication.Key features of Abhedya 2.0Blocks unknown international incoming callsBlocks unknown domestic incoming calls (optional enable/disable)Blocks hidden or private numbersPermits calls from saved contacts and approved numbersStores blocked call details in backend for analysis and future investigationSimple enable/disable option for user convenienceBenefits for citizensProtects individuals from fear and mental pressure caused by threat calls and abusive messagesReduces the impact of criminals who rely on panic and psychological pressureSafeguards citizens from cybercrimeMakes anonymous communication difficult for criminals using telecom or internet-based platformsForces criminals towards conventional communication methods, where identification and tracking by law enforcement agencies become easier
