The Haryana State Commission for Women has directed police to take action against singer-rapper Badshah after he failed to appear before the panel on Friday regarding the controversy linked to his song ‘Tateeree’. The commission chairperson, Renu Bhatia, had asked the artiste to present himself before officials in Panipat by 3 pm to respond to complaints that the track contained objectionable lyrics and visuals. When the singer failed to attend the hearing within the given time, the commission instructed the police in Panipat and Panchkula to proceed with his arrest if required. Bhatia also said authorities could seize his passport to prevent him from travelling abroad while the matter is under investigation.A legal team representing Badshah appeared before the commission instead of the singer. The lawyers told reporters that he could not attend due to professional engagements and requested additional time. They also raised security concerns and sought permission for him to participate through video conferencing. However, the commission maintained that the notice required his personal appearance and declined the request. The dispute stems from the release of ‘Tateeree’ earlier this month, which drew criticism from several social organisations and activists who alleged that the video portrayed women in a disrespectful manner. Complaints claim that the visuals show girls dressed in school uniforms dancing inside a Haryana Roadways bus and making gestures considered inappropriate.Police have registered cases in Panchkula and Jind following the complaints, and the video has since been removed from YouTube. In response to the backlash, Badshah issued a public apology through a social media video, saying he never intended to offend anyone and expressing regret to the people of Haryana. Meanwhile, some community groups and khap panchayats continue to demand strict action and a ban on the song.
