Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was today rushed to a private hospital in Mohali after he complained of uneasiness, reportedly caused by high blood pressure. He was in Sangrur, attending Shivratri functions there along with Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal, when his health suddenly deteriorated. He was flown to Chandigarh immediately, cancelling his remaining programmes in Sangrur and his trip to Fazilka to meet the family of minister Aman Arora and was rushed to the hospital. While Mann is recuperating in the hospital, his ill health comes at a time when two important political developments are unfolding in the party. First, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party’s election blitzkrieg with focus on its anti-drug campaign, is to be launched in Moga on Monday. Secondly, final discussions on the appointment of two Deputy Chief Ministers are underway between Mann and Kejriwal, who arrived here from Delhi last evening.Party sources say that though there is consensus on appointing a Hindu Deputy CM, there is reportedly a logjam over the picking a Dalit face. CM Mann is said to be pushing for a woman Dalit leader, while some party leaders favour a senior male Dalit leader often fielded for political and administrative firefighting. One new inductee in the Cabinet is also expected, as and when the reshuffle happens.A statement released by the hospital said Mann underwent comprehensive clinical assessment and standard diagnostic investigations. “All vital parameters are stable and within normal limits. He is currently experiencing exhaustion and has been admitted for observation and supportive care. His condition is stable and he remains under the supervision of a multidisciplinary medical team.”Sources in AAP say the CM, if given the go-ahead by doctors, will attend Monday’s rally, being projected as the party’s “show of strength” amid the SAD’s aggressive politicking. All party MLAs have been asked to mobilise members of the newly appointed village defence committees from their constituencies. These members, ranging from 11 to 21 in different villages, will assist the state government’s anti-drug drive alongside the police. Through the Moga rally, the ruling AAP hopes to project itself as the only government taking the illicit drug trade head-on. Later, a meeting of all MLAs and halqa in-charges will also be held in Moga, reportedly chaired by AAP Punjab affairs in-charge Manish Sisodia.
